Miywanohk: In a Good Place

Nov 13, 2025

A New Beginning at the Edmonton Centre of Hope

On November 13, the Edmonton Centre of Hope officially opened Miywanohk, its newest Transitional Housing Program. The opening marked an important milestone in The Salvation Army’s ongoing commitment to providing compassionate, recovery-oriented support for individuals seeking stability and a fresh start. The program is located within the newly renovated Keystone Facility, offering a welcoming and purpose-built space designed to support healing, growth, and recovery.

Community partners, staff, and supporters gathered to celebrate the occasion in an atmosphere filled with warmth and connection. A cozy fire pit, hot apple cider, and a meaningful blessing led by an Elder set the tone for a day grounded in reflection, gratitude, and hope. “In a Good Place”

The name Miywanohk, meaning “in a good place,” reflects the heart of the program. Miywanohk provides safe, sober, and affordable transitional housing for adults aged 18 and over, alongside individualized support, life-skills development, and a strong recovery-focused community.

The program is designed to support residents as they rebuild their lives — not only by providing housing, but by fostering dignity, belonging, and the tools needed to move forward with confidence.

Building Community and Recovery

Miywanohk is already beginning to make a difference. Residents are supported through personalized case planning, opportunities for growth, and connection within a community that understands the challenges of recovery and transition.

Programs like Miywanohk play a vital role in helping individuals move from uncertainty toward stability, offering a place where healing can begin and hope can take root.

A Shared Celebration

The grand opening brought together many of the partners and supporters who helped bring Miywanohk to life. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing housing instability and supporting recovery in our community.

This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta under the Canada–Alberta Agreement for the Unsheltered Homelessness and Encampments Initiative. This support has been instrumental in making Miywanohk possible.

As residents begin their journeys at Miywanohk, the Edmonton Centre of Hope looks forward to seeing lives transformed — as more individuals find themselves truly “in a good place.”
